Why is it Important to Hire the #1 Floor Installer in St. Maries?
Unfortunately, putting in a floor incorrectly can have extremely negative consequences. Incorrect subfloor repair/leveling can significantly decrease the life of the product and can cause annoying squeaks or even cracks. Underlayment is often forgotten, but using the correct type will maximize the lifespan and help protect the subfloor. Installing the product incorrectly can void warranties, decrease or eliminate water resistance and waterproofing, and can look pretty darn awful.
We take the time to repair the subfloor, replace it when necessary, and level out the base no matter how old and crooked your house may be. This helps ensure the product lasts as long (or longer) than it’s supposed to. We understand carpet padding and underlayment and will install the correct one to protect the subfloor to avoid rot and other damage. Finally, because of our decades of experience, we know how to get the install right the first time so it looks stunning and lasts.
St. Maries Flooring
Carpet
After elk hunting during a cold October or November trip, there’s nothing quite like taking your boots off and feeling soft, luscious carpet flooring. We help make sure it’s the right pile and loop for the different rooms in your house or river cabin and ensure the best carpet installation in St. Maries and beyond. Nylon, polyester, berber, frieze, and wool are typically used and help with thermal insullation so you don’t have to throw quite as much wood on the fire.
Laminate Flooring
Laminate has evolved significantly since it was first introduced to homes in 1977. While it had some water resistant features, a spill that forgot to be wiped up quickly could ruin the whole floor and damage the subfloor. On top of that it was hard, brittle, and just not that fun to walk on.
It now can be waterproof with WetProtect technology and the composition has changed significantly. It is softer underfoot and significantly more durable from dings and dents.
Sheet Vinyl Flooring
Most people think of sheet vinyl floors as the brittle, tacky surface from the 1970’s. This technology has changed significantly as well. It retains the waterproofing features, but is much more comfortable and soft under foot. Additionally, the designs and patterns can be realistic and artistic making it an excellent choice in kitchens, laundry rooms, and mudrooms.
Hardwood Flooring
Solid hardwood floors are timeless. Popular options include red oak, white oak, maple, and hickory that are warm, aesthetically pleasing, and just feel good when you walk or look at them. They are also one of the best returns on investment out there, since they have been shown to last hundreds of years when properly cared for.
They are an extremely popular choice in the area due to the logging town’s history and naturally go well in a cabin on the Joe or at the South end of Coeur d’Alene lake.
Engineered Hardwood Flooring
Engineered wood floors contain a plywood or HDF (high density foam) core with a wood veneer finish. This makes engineered hardwood flooring cost significantly less than solid wood, yet has advanced water moisture resistance and stability. For new houses with radiant floors, this material works incredibly well, yet the finish can still be sanded down multiple times ensuring longevity along with value.
Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring (LVP)
The term LVF makes up two similar, but different products. Luxury vinyl plank is a synthetic plank that is extremely water resistant, comes in realistic wood designs, and priced right due to the material and relative ease of install as long as the floor is prepped correctly.
Waterproof Luxury Vinyl Tile is exactly that, waterproof. This makes it an obvious choice for bathrooms and high moisture areas. It comes in wood aesthetics as well, but also in detailed and realistic stone markings.
Both LVP and LVT are comfortable underfoot being relatively soft, but are also highly durable to dings, dents, and stains, and are easy to care for and maintain.
Tile Floor
For thousands of years, tiled bathroom walls and floors have been the choice in bathrooms and other high water areas. Correctly done, the results can be stunning, waterproof, and can last generations. Ceramic and porcelain are typically used with subway, glass, mosaic, and terrazzo being complimentary pieces or the focus themselves.
Porcelain tile can last over 50 years due to its hardening procedure, but is more cumbersome to work with because of its hardness. Ceramic tile still often lasts over 30 years, while maintaining most of the benefits of porcelain at more budget friendly material and cost to install.
Duradek and other Options

The Duradek Ultra Waterproof Vinyl Membrane offers the best in waterproofing making it the Rolls Royce of outdoor flooring. It looks amazing and lasts seemingly forever. It handles the extreme temperature swings in North Idaho. The ice and snow which builds up, yet seems to be constantly thawing and refreezing, as well as the hot July days with direct sunlight.

St. Maries, ID Carpet Installation and Flooring Installers
Carpet Installation
Our carpet company will work with you to find the right material and design for each room in your house. When our carpet installers arrive at your house, they’ll remove the old surface, repair/replace the subfloor, lay down the padding, use tack strips or adhesive, stretch the carpet into place, and tuck, trim, and vacuum to finish. They will go over maintenance procedures, warranty information, and service it if there’s ever a future issue.
Laminate Flooring Installation
Subfloor preparation is critical for this material and is often where most of the time is spent. Once this is completed, we will lay an underlayment (if not already attached) and carefully snap the laminate into being mindful not to leave gaps for future moisture damage which can be tricky. We will then finish with quarter round or moulding for a finished look and feel.
Installing Sheet Vinyl Flooring
Making sure the subfloor is correct is especially important with this material. Uneven surfaces and any imperfections can puncture the surface compromising the waterproof benefits. If it needs seams we will do this flawlessly. If it can be laid unseemed, the cut is extremely difficult, but leaves you with a completely waterproof surface.
Hardwood Floor Installation
Even the best hardwood floors need acclimating for at least 72 hours to avoid cracking, warping, and buckling. After removing the old surface and trim our hardwood floor installers will ensure the subfloor is dry, clean, flat, and void of protruding nails and staples. We will nail down or glue the new wood. Afterwards, we’ll clean it and reinstall trim being mindful to hide the necessary expansion gap.
Engineered Hardwood Flooring Installation
Similar to solid planks, we will make sure it is correctly acclimated according to manufacturer specifications. Using a similar procedure to prepare as above, we will then glue or click lock the tongue and groove ensuring that there is an expansion gap and staggered joints. Finishing by cleaning and reinstalling trim.
Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring Installation
Before the LVP flooring installation, the material also needs acclimation, but typically only a few days. Ensuring the subfloor is completely flat will prevent buckling and annoying creaks in the future. LVP is clicked in carefully with a mallet and tapping block (the new wide planks are especially difficult) while LVT can be permanently adhered with special adhesive. Our installers must also be mindful of the temperature swings of the area, allowing the LVP to “move” slightly throughout the year to avoid cracking and buckling.
Tile Installers
Our tile floor installers start with a completely flat surface, using specialized coatings for moisture control. Whether underfoot or tile for wall, the procedure is similar, but complex with different procedural variations depending on the chosen tiles. Mortar is used to adhere the tile, with sanded or unsanded (or variations) grout used to finish the surface. Haze is cleared, and sealing is often necessary to ensure it lasts the intended lifespan.
This entire procedure often takes weeks due to the necessary curing throughout the process.
